  • Maybe today

Yesterday wasn’t better than the day before. Maybe. I wrote that because I think that. But, it wasn’t terrible either. I’m still bad at making a plan for the day and sticking to it. I still find myself drifting to get that dopamine. And I still don’t have systems in place to have metrics for measuring any of this. For someone with time blindness and difficulty remembering 15 minutes ago, it’s bold idiotic to make claims without proper metrics.

Deleting apps from my phones helped but browsers are still an excellent gateway. So, I went with the nuclear option. YouTube and X are now blocked in my network for all my devices.

I’m however seeing something starting to happen, even this early. I’m starting to get bored and I fall into what I call “productive procrastination”. Stuff that are either intellectually stimulating (reading Hacker News, discovering new code bases) or chores (cleaning up e-mails, paying bills). The idea is if I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing, then I should at least do something worth doing.

A form of unproductive procrastination I often do is watching long form video essays. Keeping up with whatever norm defying thing the current U.S. administration did this week is extremely fun, it teaches me a lot about politics, how quickly societies can shift and the culture in the most important country on the planet. But that’s not vital to reach the next stage in my life. I should be doing the things I should be doing and I can reward myself with the fun of consuming outrage (from both sides!) afterwards. Note that I’m not an American, I just love politics and media, anything in the intersection of that, and U.S. politics is fun, I try to consume content from all mainstream parts of the political spectrum.

OK. Metrics. I need metrics. And some gamification? Something to try to keep track today is number of to-do’s completed. It requires me to write down all of the tasks so I can keep track. I know I should be writing them all down regardless, I’m failing that, so I need ways around it, hacks, to fix that. So expect a number in tomorrow’s post.

Number of to-do’s completed would be an extremely reducing metric for measuring work performance if it was a lead or an HR doing it for an employee. It can be easily gamed by chunking the work into smaller pieces. But in this case, it’s actually good if I’m motivated to chunk my work into more specific to-do’s. I should already be doing that but lack the motivation. Make number go up is such a simple metric.

These unorganised vomits of thoughts I dare to call blog posts might actually be helpful too. It really pushes me into doing a proper retrospectives.

Now, time to eat that one almond. That’s what I promised myself while typing this up. I’ll get to have one almond as a treat for finishing this. Ok, bye, see you tomorrow…

  • Compound

Yesterday wasn’t the most productive day. I’ve done a bunch of productive things as always, but in my typical time blindness I have no idea what. I haven’t been spending the time checking Rewind.AI to compile a report for myself. I think I’m scared to see how much I waste my time still.

Deleted YouTube from my phones. Ever since ChatGPT of all things said boredom is a feature, that’s what I try to aim. I used to spend my days in Hacker News, which I classified as productive procrastinating, lately it’s just been YouTube and X. I’m not intellectually stimulated as I used to be. I’ll change that.

I also need to find the joy in being so bored in the bathroom I read the labels on the shampoo container.

Yesterday was better than the day before. As long as today is better than yesterday, I’ll win. That’s the magic of compounding.

  • Blogging? in 2025?!

I’ve been having what could be defined as a mini existential crisis lately. I’ll be 30 soon, I’m working at my dream company working on a space I’m very passionate about.

I find myself in a place where I need to refactor all the parts of myself that’s dragging me back. I have severe ADHD. It’s my superpower. It is legitimately what brought me to where I am today. My ADHD doesn’t hold me back. I’m holding myself back by not harvesting it properly. I’m not spending the time, energy and sweat that I need to so that I can learn how to use my superpower.

In superhero origin stories, there is sometimes the sequence where our hero starts to discover they have powers. Maybe they get scared or get too excited, their powers manifest. Some villain attacks them, they don’t know how to use their powers but all of the sudden their powers work. My villain has been deadlines. But when you are operating in a level like I do, deadlines are arbitrary so they are not as scary anymore. I have the privilege of knowing what the *real* deadline is.

Now, it is time for me to learn how to use my powers. It’s not going to be easy. I need help. Creating accountability is often recommended. Public commitment too.

So, I’ll blog. Every day. Just 15 minutes to talk about my day. What was great, what wasn’t. Maybe I won’t want to but then I have to write something else. I get scared to stay lone with my thoughts lately but I’m a great showman, so I’ll air my thoughts here, in written form, put on a show of my wins and my misery.

And hey, no one knows I’m blogging, so there is less shame.

  • Hello World!

  • Menu Experience of 21st Century?

I was writing an iPad application for a client, a restaurant. App is still under development and at this point I’m not allowed to share who my client is or what we are doing specifically. But I can say it’s a menu app, a simple menu app with few features.

While I was thinking about this app I thought about creating a platform like MenuPad, but cheaper & easier to use version of it. And I want people to create the app inside my web app on the web, then download & publish it, unlike MenuPad, I think. These menu/catalogs apps should be downloadable on the App Store and it also should have an optional ordering feature.

But I want to do something different, I wanted to ask people’s opinions on this subject. I’ll be asking this on HackerNews and maybe on few other platforms, and then update this post with those ideas. I also want to ask people about how can I get the best UX? Does anyone knows a good article about menu UX? But I’m not just asking about the UX, I want ideas on every aspect of this.

Some of my ideas (I can’t share the ones that I’ll be coding for my client’s app, I’ll update this post once the app is released):

    • Social sharing (Facebook Like for menu items perhaps?),
    • Optional ordering features depending on your location,
    • Should be integrated with sales devices (like printers and other sales equipment that is used in a restaurant or a coffee shop)
